About
Ioana Palamar
b. 1989. In Rădăuți town, Suceava county, Romania
Education: 2016 George Enescu National University of Arts, Iași
Lives and works in Iași
Ioana Palamar is interested in exploring her memories from childhood, whose strong influence is felt even today, like roots extending into the depths of the unconscious, waiting in a latent state to be discovered and subsequently dragged into the light of consciousness. According to Sigmund Freud’s theories, certain contents are repressed in the unconscious, due to a lack of access to the preconscious – conscious system, which is why, throughout life, we are condemned to undertake a labor that, in essence, represents a metaphor for recovering one’s own self overshadowed by the voices or echoes of others.
Stylistically speaking, Ioana Palamar’s works sit at the boundary between figurative and abstract, following a minimalist color path that betrays a certain degree of austerity, whose role is to outline a meditative-melancholic atmosphere, with accents of inner tensions.
