Artist statement
Theresa Martini and Roi Shternin’s plan consisted in the research-period of a documentary theatre project about collective and family inherited trauma.
Roi Shternin is a public speaker from Israel (TEDx-Talk Shanghai, key notes around the globe, expert by living experiance in the Volkstheater Vienna production „Wien´s Anatomy“ by director Karen Breece) and Theresa Martini is an performing artist from Austria (Maxim Gorki Theatre Berlin, Hamakom Theater Vienna, Toxic dreams Vienna).
A big part of the project is to research about Roi’s family history: his Jewish great-grandparents Anna and Leib Stein survived the pogroms in Roman by hiding in the woods and travelled to Israel after the war with their Romanian-born children Esthera and Isaak Stein. Their research is about Roi’s personal family history in Moldova, what it does to him to face it and present some kind of performative artwork to help heal the wounds of the past.
