Artist Statement

The exhibition “Memory of Materials” represents the result of the collaboration between resident Mexican artists Kees Ouwens and Carmen Jacobo, and students from the Ceramics (coordinated by Associate Professror Ramona Biciușcă) and Painting Departments of the Faculty of Visual Arts and Design in Iași. This collaboration is materialized through the creation of installations and chromatic interventions within the architectural structure of the exhibition space. The actual assembly of both the modular ceramic pieces and the fragments of materials found in the abandoned building on Ghica Vodă Street, which belonged to Costache Corjescu, a 19th-century administrator and politician, is in fact encapsulated under the concept of human and intercultural connection that runs like a red thread through the artistic discourse of the two artists.
