Artist statement In general the city is for me material for research. Although the main aim is to pass on to the viewer painting action out of “comfort zone”, the choice of topics is usually sophisticated and deals with either some overlooked interesting part of the city, banality, or thematise contemporary visual trash of our […]

Artist statement Atopos is a mixed media project which occurred during November 2023, as part of the U.N.A.G.E. Iasi international residency programme. Continuing the mixed media approach I had adopted in previous residencies (in 2022 in KuBa:Kulturbahnhof in Germany and in 2019 at the Old School Residency in Bulgaria) I explored themes of emotional ineffability, […]

Artist statement My practice and motivations centre on issues surrounding citizenship, identity and social justice. I use archives and archival practices as a method for highlighting under-represented perspectives or narratives that run in parallel or against collective memories. During the residency at George Enescu, I would like to explore and transgress three main and overlapping […]

Artist statement My learning background and creation are mainly composed of two parts. First of all I have studied western art techniques for many years. Then I systematically studied traditional Chinese art. Thinking about the history of art, the exchange and collision of Chinese and Western cultures, and the application and performance of traditional art […]

Artist statement The work that I produce is largely situated within an evolving folklore. The components of visual iconography, pictorial representation, and symbology help inform communal allegory. My approach is one of inquiry into the common threads of parables and fables within culturally specific narratives. These localized perspectives yield unique ritual, dogma, and ethos within […]
Amber Liberte

Artist Statement The genesis of Pigeon Loops developed after spending a number of days visiting a variety of buildings in Iasi, and spending time researching the historical, political and social importance and resonance of particular buildings and areas. After some deliberation, Liberté chose to focus her residency piece on Piata Unirii, both due to the […]
Emery Hall

Artist statement This exhibition is a literal representation of an American’s first experience in Romania. Focusing on shapes and materials intrinsic to Iasi, Emery strives to bring the ephemeral forms of architecture and everyday local life into the direct gaze of the viewer. Coming from the arid Sonoran Desert with cactus in place of trees, […]

Artist statement I aspire to explore and photograph Romania because of my desire to tell a story about this ancient land that has been shaped by history, distinct culture, and splendid landscape. My commitment as photographer is to show “the real life of real people” and there is no better place than Romania to demonstrate […]

Artist statement Individual existences within the relationship between permanence and temporality with the context of time and memory are explored in the project. The title suggests ‘Horizontal’ as an infinite line and ‘Arc’ as a circle; together, they symbolizes the Earth -the horizon is a straight line but it is a part of the outline […]

Artist statement I want to transmit the tension between people in public spaces, especially in public transports. Iwant to show where our attention goes when we’re in this kind of situation; which details do wefocus on? Are we looking at the people around us, are we watching some videos on our phones, listening music, looking outside, […]

Artist statement The drawings in this exhibition were all made during my two week stay in Iasi. They are personal notes for future paintings and the record of past experiences. Most were made in three locations: Copou Park, the Botanical Gardens and the small park close to Piața Unirii. I preferred the botanics on grey days; […]
Renzo Novelli

Artist statement Recuérdame (Aminteste-mi) is a selection of drawings and paintings by Renzo Novelli. The artist explores what it means to connect as humans and after this when you become only a memory from the past. For this, the artworks are created in a mix of techniques, drawing, painting, printing and mixed media. After a month […]
John Dillard

Artist statement My work centers around the idea of sculpture as object; more importantly the intersection between objects and sculptures. I’m looking for slippage between the two and how we as artist communicate that difference. Mining the vibrating gap between these two things to create my work. I’m often questioning object fixedness, sense of purpose […]

Artist statement The process of creating the painting takes place through the superposition of numerous layers, and the first layers are applied silkscreen prints, or images created with the use of stencil masks. These graphics or words that are printed on the canvas, are collected from the urban landscape, are ornamental details of historic buildings, […]
Larissa Mellor

Artist statement My work uses visual and structural investigation to explore ideas of identity and place in relation to my own lived experience, my genealogy, and that of the work. Through representation, material, and abstraction the work explores meaning-making and aims to uncover new understandings of experience beyond what is clearly articulable. https://cargocollective.com/larissamellor

Artist statement Stasis Trees epitomize stasis. A standing still. Dwelling on the beauty. Not accidental but intentional. Not only feeling it, but expressing it. How to express the true inner relationships between figures and objects. The art of between. The art of being neither art not nature, but both. Fragments that cut into our thoughts. […]

Artist statement One day, months ago, I felt the need to reconsider. I received signals, impulses, vibrations that pointed to that path. I remembered an old painting of mine which used to be in my brother’s home: it spoke of uncertainty, it spoke of hope. It was a bridge between the darker ways of the […]

Artist Statement The ,,Inner Shadows” exhibition brings to light the complexities of transition between one’s inner universe, crossing through the natural state of solitude, symbolized by the closed eyes, to the beginning of self-actualization in the outer universe, represented by the half-opened eyes. The journey is completed and ready for repetitions only after an exploration […]

This work reflects an inner part of my inner universe. I consider eye to be one of the main keys to the human soul, it is the most appropriate way to express various states of mind, like panic, in this case, which is betrayed by the wide open eye.
