Artist statement 

Individual existences within the relationship between permanence and temporality with the context of time and memory are explored in the project. The title suggests  ‘Horizontal’ as an infinite line and ‘Arc’ as a circle; together, they symbolizes the Earth -the horizon is a straight line but it is a part of the outline of the Earth – utopian eternity. In Horizontal Arc series, castles represent as permanent existences, which have own specific historical context and bubbles as a representation of temporal existences, each of which have their own characteristics. Repetitive and continuous production of bubbles, which is also symbol of mass-production and multiplicity, imply as the cycle of life. Each bubble also represents as each individual that has own autonomy but forms a group as a whole like of Heidegger’s theory Dasein. There is an encounter between tradition and contemporary in this work; castles as an icon of ‘society’ with certain rules and rituals and bubbles as populace who reside in the contextualized society which nurture our culture and notion. https://tomieseo.net/
